What a way to start the winter series with a 13 under par 59 shot at The Bedford by Simon Lilly who beat a shocked Michael Lowe ,who scored a 7 under par 65 and lost by 6 shots! This will be talked about for many years to come as we believe it is the first sub 60 round to be recorded by a professional in a professional stroke play event in the United Kingdom.

From there we moved on to the Red Course at Frilford Heath and as usual it provided a good test for the players, having recently hosted a stage one European Tour Qualifying school tournament. The final result was a tie between Martin Sell and the Jamega Tour Order of Merit winner Lee James who navigated their way around in 3 under par 69’s. Not quite the dramatics of Lilly’s 59 of the previous week but nonetheless two good solid performances.

Moving swiftly on three days later to the fantastic Woodcote Park Golf Club in South London and yet another glorious autumn day greeted us and the players. A fantastic day for scoring and the day produced another tie for first place between James Ruth and Francis McGuirk each navigating their way around this delightful parkland course in 5 under par 66’s.

Cumberwell Park near Bath was our next port of call on this whirlwind winter series tour and a foggy start to the day nearly proved our undoing because with a field of 46 players and poor light it would prove to be a struggle to get the field of 46 players round. We just managed to get everybody in the house before darkness fell and at the end of the day we had another tie, this time between last weeks joint winner Martin Sell and local hero Charlie Cossins who both compiled 5 under par 66’s.

Our final stop on this five series winter tour took us to the coast and the brilliant Burnham and Berrow golf course. A traditional links design with nine holes going out and nines holes coming home where its only protection is from the normally ever present wind which was conspicuous by its absence and the flags on the perfect greens hung limp all day.

Despite a dry day being forcast the rains came and made it a miserable day for the players. However the course held its own and protected its reputation, only allowing one player to breach the par of 71 and that was first time winner on tour Liam Crawford who scored a fine 2 under par 69 to win the day.

The winter series has proved to be a popular new feature for the players and we will most certainly be doing some more in the early part of next year so keep looking at the website for information.

The 2012 schedule is now confirmed and on the website and if you want to save yourself £75 then you need to take up the £125 membership offer for 2012 before the 1st of December after which it goes up to £200.

Finally can we at Jamega thank all the players who have supported us during this and our previous 6 years and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous golfing New Year.
