Party in The Park for Laskey
Mark Laskey strolled to victory at Park Wood with an excellent score of 8 under par, which given the chalk and cheese weather of the two days, was tremendous golf.
An ideal first day for scoring at Park Wood with sunshine and light winds helped Dale Whitnell and Alasdair Plumb to 6 under par 66’s to set the early target.
Daniel Bennett, Mark Laskey, Jack Slater and South Africa’s Lyle Rowe came close to joining the leaders with solid 5 under par 67’s.
It was to be a challenging final round for the players as the weather was forecasted to be wet at times and very windy.
Early starter, Max Jordan, showed what could be done with a one under par 71 that gave him a fourteen-shot improvement on his first round of thirteen over par.
In the wet blustery conditions scoring was not easy but from the penultimate group, Laskey set the clubhouse target at 8 under par by adding a solid 3 under par 69 to his first round 5 under, while Rowe’s card was a “Liquorice All sorts” of colour, indicating pars, bogies, birdies and an Eagle all adding up to a level par 72.
In the final group, last year’s winner, Dale Whitnell, never came to grips with the front nine and turned in 3 over par, whilst Plumb and Bennett both faded away in the trying conditions to leave Laskey the winner of the “Park Wood Futures” and a cheque for £3,500.
The hospitality in the clubhouse at Park Wood was superb, as usual and the course held up well despite the dreadful weather on the second day, thanks to Head Greenkeeper Jack Sims and his enthusiastic staff.
