Dixon on Fire at The Wychwood
David Dixon continued his run of good form with a runaway 5 shot win over Jack Colegate at The Wychwood, smashing Warren Bennett’s previous course record of 6 under par by 2 shots with a very impressive 8 under par 64.
At the end of the first day a tightly packed leaderboard was headed by Jack Charman, Daniel Hendry and Michael Downey all scoring 3 under par 69’s.
A whole raft of players queued up behind the leading trio with the closest challengers, on 2 under par being Jack Seaman, Tom Dolan, Dan Smith, Michael Farrier-Twist, Sam Robinson and the eventual winner, Dixon.
The second round started quite sedately for Dixon, with four pars to kick off his day that gave no indication about what was to come but then he harvested three birdies over the last five holes of the front nine to take the lead
Jack Colegate, in the group ahead, was the closest challenger to Dixon but despite birdies at 3 of the last 4 holes to eventually post a 4 under par 68 for a 5 under par total, it was never going to be low enough to worry Dixon.
After a little rest with three pars at the start of the back nine, Dixon proceeded to birdie the next 5 holes to get to 10 under par and with a par at the last ran out a comfortable winner, with Colegate a gallant second.
