Hogg Brings Home the Bacon!
Matthew Hogg, who turned professional in February this year has won his first event in fine style at The Leatherhead Club with a 2-shot victory over the experienced trio of Jamie Moul, Sam Connor and George Mullins.
Hogg carded an almost flawless 6 under par round of 65 to lead by one from Dale Whitnell and George Mullins, on 5 under with Jamie Moul, Max Smith and Louis Hirst a further shot back.
On the second day, local hero Charlie Lydyard shot a best of the day 5 under par 66 to establish the clubhouse lead on 5 under par which only lasted until Sam Connor posted a total of 6 under par.
Jamie Moul joined Connor on 6 under par after adding a 2 under par 69 to his first round and the likelihood of a play-off loomed large but Hogg soon put paid to that by birdying the sixteenth and seventeenth holes to go to 9 under par.
Hogg made a bogey at the par 3 last but with 3 shots in hand it was of little consequence and he secured a thoroughly deserved 2 shot win over a very strong field.
Matthew looks very likely candidate to follow in the footsteps of Andrew Johnston and Tyrrell Hatton who both also secured their first professional wins with us.
The Leatherhead Club is undergoing some big changes at the moment which will enhance the status of the club in the future and we are very grateful for all the help we received from Adam Hinton, the head professional and the team at Leatherhead.
