It’s a Double for James Allan [UPDATED - GALLERY ADDED]
After a tremendous Pro Am at Enfield which saw Andrew “Beef” Johnston take part as the team Professional on the Captains Team and then throughout the day signed autographs and posed for selfies with everyone who asked we moved on to the main tournament.
Jamie Abbott put together a spectacular round of 7 under par to take a 2 shot lead into the second day of the tournament at Enfield golf club.
Abbott completed the outward nine in a modest 2 under par 35 but then covered the back nine in a very impressive 5 under par 30.
Sean Maisey and James Allen on 5 under par headed up the chasing pack of some twenty-three players on level par or better so Abbott would have to keep his wits about him.
The second day turned out to be a scorcher in more ways than one with the temperatures in the very high twenties and the hot golf played, especially by James Allan in the final group looking for his second win on tour as a professional.
Allen, playing spectacular golf, had caught and overtaken Abbott within 6 holes of the front nine and after going out in a brilliant 5 under par 32 he led the tournament by 2 shots going into the final nine holes.
Things went a bit flat for Allan after the turn and the game continued to be difficult for Abbott, who has been struggling of late to maintain his first round form going forward.
Both players bogied the twelfth hole, then Abbott all but threw in the towel with a double bogey at the par 3 fourteenth that gave Allen a comfortable 4 shot lead with 4 holes left to play, and a second win for the affable left hander who loves a bag of “Burts Handmade Chips”, pretty much in the bag.
The pair then traded pars on the following 3 holes and so with an unassailable 4 shot lead Allan played the eighteenth for a regulation par while Abbott to his credit made a birdie to reduce the deficit to 3 shots.
What a forward thinking club Enfield is with an active Captain in Phil Tiddy and a committee who actively support and encourage junior golf at the club.
The club itself is welcoming and friendly with great food on offer in the clubhouse after your round, so get on down to Enfield Golf Club and enjoy a good day’s golf.
