Uncle Tyler Wins at Weybrook Park - [updated]
It was a double celebration for Tyler Hogarty at Weybrook Park on Tuesday with a second win on the the Jamega Tour and the birth of his brand new nephew, Dylan in the early hours of day two.
For a change we enjoyed two days of sunny and more importantly, dry weather at Weybrook Park and the first day was to produce a tightly packed leader board with some 21 players scoring par or better.
The eventual winner, Tyler Hogarty, sat well back from the top of the leader board after a solid one under par 71 but with in form Jamie Moul at the head of proceedings on 4 under it was going to be a battle for anyone to catch him.
The second day did not produce any spectacular play, in fact it was a day when the leader’s either trod water or got swept away on the tide.
Jamie Abbott set the benchmark with a solid 2 under par 70 that saw him sit on top of the heap for a while until Ben Loughrey joined him shortly after with a second one under par 71.
On the course, Moul seemed to have things under control reaching the turn in one under par to get to 5 under and 3 shots ahead of his nearest challenger. Hogarty turned in 2 under par for the tournament and then extracted 2 more birdies from the back nine to leapfrog Abbott and Loughrey to set a 4 under par target for Moul to beat. Moul’s back nine saw him bogey the eleventh and thirteenth to fall back to 3 under par and a shot behind Hogarty who now had a chance of at least a play-off with Moul.
Moul recovered his position with a birdie on the sixteenth to draw level with Hogarty but the cup was dashed from Moul’s lips with another bogey on the seventeenth that put him one shot adrift of a hopeful Hogarty in the clubhouse.
With a par at the last Moul finished on 3 under par to see a delighted Hogarty crowned as the champion and with the birth of his nephew Dylan it had been the perfect day for Tyler.
